Patricia began her massage career 26 years ago when she left her corporate job in high-tech sales management. She was motivated by a great desire to serve and felt a career in massage would better enable her to do so. Over the years, she immersed herself in the study of many massage modalities to better serve her clients and be the most effective possible in relieving and releasing pain in her client's bodies. Some of the modalities she learned were: Swedish massage, Cranial Sacral therapy, Myofascial release, Trigger Point, Hendrickson Method, Deep Tissue, Reiki, Acupressure, Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Warm Stone, and many others. The most important teacher for her, though, was her experience working with her clients.
Through them, she learned to be present— to really listen. To their words and to their bodies. She also had a distinct advantage—that was in her study of an ancient internal Chinese martial art and wisdom tradition she gained the ability to listen to herself. “From yourself and then for others” was a hallmark principle she followed in her practice and in her life in general. She credits this listening skill with being a highly effective massage practitioner. And, having given over 5,000 massages over 25 years, Patricia has learned what works best to relieve and help her clients heal.
The word “massage” might bring to mind images of sumptuous spas and expensive health clubs, but the benefits of massage make this practice much more than a luxury. Massage is part of integrated medicine that not only reduces stress and increases relaxation, it also improves circulation, energy and alertness. While massage can reduce pain, muscle soreness and tension, it can also lower your heart rate and blood pressure and improve your immune function.
The stress hormone cortisol is often reduced during massage, while “feel good” chemicals, like endorphins, oxytocin, dopamine and serotonin, are released. Our bodies and minds naturally respond to the caring touch of massage with calmness and connectedness.
